Ten Commandments Part II

This is the second part in a ten part series on grace and the Ten Commandments.

The second commandment "you shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments."

Ten Commandments Part I

While sharing the Gospel I often ask people "how do you get to Heaven"? Often these people reply that "[I] must obey the Ten Commandments", by this they mean the Ten Commandments in the Bible in Exodus 20:3-17. Every bit as frequently however, I ask "have you kept the Ten Commandments and usually the reply is "Sort of", "some of them", or "not completely". Every so often I find someone who will claim to have actually kept all ten commandments. Regardless of the answer however, nobody who has claimed the way to heaven is to obey the Ten Commandments has actually been able to tell me what all ten of the commandments are.

Two Places

My happiest fishing grounds has been the bus system. There has always been a captive audience, whether I am sitting at the stop waiting for a bus or riding a bus waiting for my destination (no pun intended). The bus stop has been especially good, as I don't generally have to approach anyone. I simply pray that the Lord will send whoever He would like me to witness to and in a minute or two someone will ask me what time their bus is supposed to come or some other such question. I politely answer their question then hand them a Gospel tract and "ask have you seen one of these yet?" Invariable they ask, "what is it?" So I tell them "it's a Gospel tract; do you have a Christian background?" Next thing you know we are talking about sin, repentance and the Gospel.

Cross-Browser Compatibility

Cross-browser compatibility is one of the most overlooked responsibilities of Web developers in this age of feature rich, interactive Web sites. Web sites are rendered differently in different browsers because:
  • Most of the couple hundred browsers available render (X)HTML, CSS, and JavaScript in a proprietary way.
  • Not all WYSIWYG editors code the same way.
  • Though approximately 99.2% of all internet users use Internet Explorer, Firefox, Netscape, Opera, Mozilla, Safari, or Konqueror, merely the recent versions of these seven browsers present 157 possible configurations of browser/browser version/operating system/screen resolution.
These among other reasons is why many Web developers simply decide that it is good enough to support Internet Explorer and maybe Firefox. This is not a good approach, as most users who have a bad experience at your site will assume it is just a bad site and not return with a different browser.
